Imagine an Israeli company spying & collecting your personal and browsing information without your knowledge and then selling it to Airtel India.
Now imagine an Indian coder exposing this malpractice.
Now imagine the unthinkable: the Israeli company sending a legal notice threatening the Indian coder with Indian laws.
Bengaluru-based programmer named Thejesh GN, who had recently received a cease and desist legal notice from Israel-based Flash Networks for publicly posting a code that Airtel claimed was being injected to track its users , has denied any copyright infringement on his part. Thejesh, through his lawyer Lawrence Liang, countered the legal notice by asking for “an unconditional apology” from Flash Networks for violating online privacy. According to its own website Flash Network also has similar ties with Vodaphone though its not clear in which countries
An Israeli company based in Herzalia with no physical presence in India is actually trying to get an Indian citizen to cease and desist from making public and intrusive code that appeared in HIS mobile phone. Although there’s no proof that the founders/owners of Flash Networks come from the notorious Israeli cyber spy group Unit 8200, its a known fact that Israeli tech is probably some of the more insidious tech and we’ve likely only seen the surface of it. They work on intrusive spy codes around the clock for national security purposes, and then the ex spies shave off bits of it and commercialize it for profit . This has gone all the way back to the 1980s with companies like CheckPoint.
Thejesh also claimed in his reply that Flash Networks “has attempted to use a ‘cease and desist notice’ to intimidate and silence and prevent an open discussion on an issue of immense public interest”. Meanwhile, Airtel, in a statement, had said it has nothing to do with the “code” or legal notice sent to Thejesh.
